Grading Information
This year, summer work will count as test grade in the first quarter. Each week will count as 10% of the test grade. Grading within the weekly work will be noted on the weekly assignment page. Newly enrolled students, please see the "New Students" tab for a description of how students enrolled during the summer months will be graded.
Online Literature Quizzes- 1 per week- Online literature quizzes are to be taken through the W.W.Norton website. At the end of the quiz the student will be given instructions to email the results to his teacher. In order to receive credit for this portion of the work, the student must complete the quiz and email the results. The student will also be able to email the results to himself. This would be a prudent step were controversy to arise regarding the completion of these works.
Literature Blog Posts- 1 original post and a minimum of 2 responses per week
Personal Blog Posts- 1 per week utilizing a minimum of 3 vocabulary words even if the student was able to correctly define all vocabulary words.
Grammar Log- The log should contain entries from each week's work. If the student is able to complete all the SAT questions successfully and correctly define all the SAT vocabulary words, the student should write at least a one paragraph reflection about how this made him feel as well as commenting about something within the activity which he found interesting or challenging.
Enrichment assignments- Several times during the summer the students will be asked to complete various activities. The instructions for these assignments will be included in the weekly assignment tab.
Extra credit listed on the weekly tabs as "Additional Activities"- While many students only desire to complete the minimum required work, some students chose to excel and willingly embrace additional opportunities to learn. Each week there will be additional activities that will expose the students to more material and allow the students to make additional connections across materials. These activities are not required, however, they are available to students who choose an additional challenge or were unable to complete some work in the previous weeks and would like to attempt to regain some lost points.
