Week Three Assignments are due by 6/22/13
1) Weekly Literature Blog Entry (20%)- Walker, Garnett, and Delaney were passionate about ending slavery. The different approaches they chose to take demonstrate much of the differences in their education and experiences. Your instructions in reading were to look at the different writings and consider how the authors approached their argument In a 100 or more word post, discuss one or more things that stood out to you from one or more of the works. Please make sure you include which author and which part of his work you are discussing. Provide textual evidence (quotes) from the work to allow your blog reader to understand your thoughts. In completing your posts, make sure you are adding to the discussion, not simply stating the same things.
2. Blog responses (10%)- After completing your post, you must respond to two other students posts. You must respond to students who have written about a different author and work posting something of additional value. Students will only receive credit for responses to works they did not use in their original post. Students may respond to additional posts if they like.
3. Short Essay (20%) - Using Microsoft Word, write a 500 word minimum, 5 paragraph essay about one of the authors and his writing. The essay should highlight three major ideas used by the author. Email your completed essay to your teacher as an attachment ([email protected]).
4. Vocabulary (15%)- Go to the Sheppards software website and practice SAT/GRE practice Quiz Set 3 Vocab until you score at least a 80%. Post to the blog you create an entry using at least 3 words from this list. Write down in your grammar log any words and definitions that you were unable to answer correctly on the quiz. http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/vocabmania.htm
5. SAT Grammar review (15%) Take a break! (For those that had not noticed, I accidentally had the same link here that was for last week. If you did the SAT grammar last week, you will get credit for both weeks.)
6. Your Blog (20%)- Time for a creative, funny blog post. Create a blog that reads somewhat like one of the works you read this week. Do you want to call for rebellion against unjust summer work or cleaning bedrooms? Or would you rather emigrate to preschool where their is not summer work? Make it fun and creative. What speech would you give to your readers? It does not need to be long. A few sentences will suffice.

Extra Credit Activities
Create a detailed chart comparing and contrasting two of the above authors. When and where were they born? How much education did they have? How long were they a slave? From where did they later live and write? What did they suggest in their speeches both to the African Americans and to the white society.
