Week Ten Assignments
1) Weekly Literature Blog Entry (20%)- Search the internet and find a Langston Hughes poem which you like. In your post, explain which poem you are writing about, summarize the poem, and then provide a link to the poem. The class should not repeat poems. There are more than enough to choose from, so find one that has not been used and that you like. In a 100 or more word post, discuss one or more things that stood out to you from the work. Please make sure you include which work you are discussing. Provide textual evidence (quotes) from the work to allow your blog reader to understand your thoughts. In completing your posts, make sure you are adding to the discussion, not simply stating the same things.
2. Blog responses (10%)- After completing your post, you must respond to two other students posts. You must respond to students who have written about a different author and work posting something of additional value. Students will only receive credit for responses to works they did not use in their original post. Students may respond to additional posts if they like.
3. Quiz (20%)- .Go to the W.W. Norton website and take the quiz for McKay's "The White House" http://www.wwnorton.com/college/english/africanamericanlit2e/ch/D_Harlem/quiz.aspx
4. Vocabulary (15%)- Go to the Sheppards software website and practice SAT/GRE practice Quiz Set 10 Vocab until you score at least a 80%. Post to the blog you create an entry using at least 3 words from this list. 5. ACT Grammar review (15%)- Go to the ACT website and do the first set of 15 practice ACT grammar questions. If you do not answer a question correctly, write down the question and correct answer in your grammar log. ACT weblink: http://www.actstudent.org/sampletest/english/eng_05.html
6. Your Blog (20%)- The end! For this week, write a post stating at least one thing that you learned or that you read over the summer that you liked.
